Tanner started out as an independent school photographer when he was 16 years old. Since then he has launched a growing Sports Photography Division with a Hawaii Based Photography Studio, Expressions, toured with theatrical productions around the state and overseas as a tour photographer, and started HI-Shot Media, a local media company aiming to bring quality visuals to Hawaii businesses.
